Research interests:

Gender, technology, popular music, and cultural production. My current research project is a study of women who DJ and produce electronic/dance music. I have presented my work at the National Communication Association, the International Communication Association, and the International Association for the Study of Popular Music. My writing has been published in Women’s Studies in Communication and the Journal of Popular Music Studies.

Courses I Teach:

COM 307 – Freedom of Expression

This course examines the meaning, range, challenges, and limitations to freedom of expression in a Western context, with special attention given to the intersections of freedom of expression, cultural production, copyright law and the Internet.

COM 257 – Radio Production

This course familiarizes students with all of the facets of radio production used in the contemporary radio industry. Students learn the mechanics of production while cultivating their creativity, broadcast writing and critical thinking skills.
