My Research:

My research combines my complimentary academic, industry, and teaching interests. As I completed my graduate studies, I served as a Public Information Officer for a large, metropolitan hospital. In this position, I utilized public relations theory and techniques to effectively communicate health information to internal and external stakeholders. Furthermore, similar to other large non-profit organizations, the hospital was essentially a laboratory for the study of organizational communication due to its size, scope, and diversity in employees and clientele.  To that end, my program of research focuses on 3 areas of specialization: Applied/Professional Communication (Leadership, Organizational Communication, Health Communication) and Public Relations and New Media. Recent published work appears in journals such as The Leadership QuarterlyCommunication Research Reports, and Cases in Public Health Communication and Marketing, and in several edited books. I am the recipient of several internal sponsored grants including an Interdisciplinary Research Initiative Award, a Faculty Research Arts and Creative Actives Award, and a Research Development Award. I am also the recipient of Outstanding Research Award from Wayne State University and was designated as both a Thomas C. Rumble and King Chavez Parks Future Faculty Fellow and was nominated for the Central States Communication Association Outstanding New Teacher award.
