The purpose of the academy is to give honor and recognition to a select group of our outstanding graduate and undergraduate alumni. It is with great pride and enthusiasm that we honor them – and thank them for their willingness to give back to our school.

Neil Smith

Neil Smith received his bachelors degree in Communication in 1977
A member of the WMU Athletic Hall of Fame, Neil was named NHL Executive of the Year in 1992 by The Sporting News. In 1996 he received a Distinguished Alumni Award – WMU’s most prestigious alumni award. Currently he is a color analyst for NHL games on the cable channel Versus and for the NHL Network. He is also working on Hockey Night in Canada Radio as a host; is a pro scout for the Anaheim Ducks of the NHL – and -- the owner of the Johnstown Chiefs of the ECHL.
