Application Process FAQ

  • What should I do as an undergraduate student to be admitted to the School of Communication?
    In order to be admitted to a major in the department, these are the steps to follow:
    1. Complete the pre-com courses.
    2. Discern the major that best suits your personality and career ambitions.
    3. Submit the application to the Director of undergraduate studies.
    4. Meet with the advisor and develop a program of studies.
  • What is 'Precom'?
    Currently, the pre-comm courses for the various majors are as follows, effective for students with a catalog year beginning Fall 2009: (Scroll down to see a revised list for those declaring their major from Fall 2004 through Summer II 2009)
    Major Precom
    FVM COM 1000, COM 2400, COM 2410
    COS COM 1000
    IPC COM 1000, COM 1700, and COM 2000
    JRN COM 1000, COM 2400 and JRN 1000
    MDS COM 1700, COM 2000, COM 2400 and
    COM 2410 or COM 2560
    OCM COM 1000, COM 2000, and COM 2800
    PUR COM 1000, COM 2000, COM 2800
    TCM COM 1000, COM 2400
    You need to complete the Precom courses with a grade of C or better in order to be eligible to apply for a major.
