Program Overview

Elementary Education

A. Students must select one of the two options:

B. All Elementary/Early Education students complete concentrations in language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. In addition, students must minor in at least two of these subjects by completing additional coursework (usually two courses). The links below list the courses in each concentration (the initial list of courses) followed by the courses needed to complete the minor.

C. Students who want to major in PE, Art, Music, or Speech Pathology should contact those departments for information on the majors and options within each major. One option is the elementary education minor with classes taken in the Department of Teaching, Learning, and Educational Studies:

Congratulations to Paul Vellom co-author of a project titled: Integrated Apprenticeship in the Teaching of Elementary Science (IATES). The National Science Foundation's CCLI program has awarded $200,000 to the proof-of-concept grant for the three-year project.
