3 Semester credit reading diagnostics requirement - effective July 1, 2009
Reading methods course (PA 118) - required June 2009
Michigan Department of Education has increased teacher certificate
fees.
The Professional, Occupational Education, or Provisional Renewal will be recommended by the approved Michigan teacher education institution which "planned" or approved the eighteen semester-hour program of additional credit. The candidate applies directly to such Michigan college or university regardless of what other college or university may have recommended the initial Provisional certificate. By signing the appropriate certification application form from the recommending college/university, the applicant is agreeing to pay the appropriate fee when billed directly by the Department of Education. After payment is made, the certificate will be issued by the Department of Education. Applications are available from the Teacher/Administrator Certification Office, College of Education and Human Development, 2217 Sangren Hall, (269) 387-3473.
The only candidates who apply to the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) for subsequent certificates are those whose 9 to 18 credit hours taken since the issuance of their initial Michigan Provisional certificate have been completed in a regionally accredited out-of-state program, based on the completion of a planned course of study applicable to either additional certification/endorsement relevant to the profession of education or a related master’s or higher degree. Visit the Michigan
Department of Education or phone (517) 373-3310 for an application.
Candidates who wish to pursue a master's degree program should file an application for graduate admission. Candidates who do not wish to pursue a graduate program may enroll as graduate non-degree status with the purpose to meet certification requirements "CER."
Need to obtain a duplicate of a certificate, renew a professional or occupational certificate, or apply for out-of-state candidacy? The Michigan Department of Education site gives instructions on these items.
