The
Dorothy J. McGinnis Reading Center and Clinic in the College of Education
at Western Michigan University currently provides a number of literacy
services to a diverse population. The Reading Center serves as an intern
facility for undergraduate and graduate students who are involved in
all levels of diagnosis and tutoring under professional supervision.
The Reading Center also provides diagnostic services for individuals.
The Center provides tutoring and small group literacy instruction to individuals of all ages who may be experiencing reading and/or writing difficulties. A trained and supportive staff of professionals supervise undergraduate tutors who meet weekly with their students throughout the semester. Referrals can be self, school, or parent initiated.
The Reading Center provides future teachers and master teachers with literacy practicum experiences in diagnostic teaching in a clinical setting.
Limited scholarships are available through the Christine Chapel/Ethel Bulloch Crowell Scholarship Fund.
