
The recreation program at WMU focuses on educating students about recreation and leisure leadership, program and service development, deliveryand management. The recreation major or minor offers a variety of courses, experiences and guidance that allow students to develop professional skills and competencies for professional careers in community, campus, outdoor, commercial, government, or private settings. The recreation major and minor prepare students to assume leadership and/or administrative roles in their chosen area of emphasis.
The curriculum includes major/minor core courses including specific academic service learning opportunities. In addition, the major includes electives, 225 hours of field experience (practicum) and a 600 hour internship. Students pursue a course of study leading to a bachelor of science degree in recreation within the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation.
Eligible students are invited to participate in Phi Epsilon Kappa professional honorary.
