Community Health Education

Program Major

Community Health Education majors are required to complete a core curriculum consisting of a minimum of 33 credits of required health education content and process courses, 6-8 credits of electives (selected with the consent of an HPER advisor), 5 cognate courses and a 4-6 credit hour field experience internship. Students can complete courses associated with the major over a 2-year period, followed by the 1-semester required internship.

The Internship Experience

The Community Health Education internship is designed to be a capstone experience that provides students with an opportunity to utilize their skills and knowledge working in a health education setting. This experience should provide the student with the opportunity to observe, participate with and learn from health professionals working in community-based settings.

Community Health Education majors are required to complete a 400- to 600-hour internship. Prior to beginning the internship, students are required to have completed all course work directly associated with their health education degree.
