Graduate Athletic Training Professional Program
The Master's of Science in Exercise and Sports Medicine with an emphasis in athletic training is an NATA Accredited Graduate Curriculum designed to provide the student with advanced athletic training didactic and laboratory experiences, clinical internship opportunities in which the student will solidify their skills, and research experiences to become better clinicians and educators. Our hope is that the graduates of this program will possess skills that not only make them highly qualified professionals but also well rounded individuals.
The Graduate Athletic Training Program will expose students to a wide variety of the latest techniques and concepts in athletic training and related disciplines. Students will:
- Complete coursework within the athletic training major that emphasizes human performance and conditioning, with emphasis in aquatic therapy and strength and conditioning (will provide knowledge and preparation to sit for the NSCA CSCS examination)
- Complete elective coursework in exercise physiology or sports administration to promote educational diversity for better job opportunities
- Participate in a two year clinical placement to enhance skills and techniques, increase confidence and leadership, promote autonomy, and refine communication skills with athletes, coaches, administrators, and peers
- Learn current research techniques and trends, how to decipher research in professional journals, and to apply research in the professional atmosphere
- Have opportunities to participate in community events enhance clinical experiences and network with other professionals
- Work closely with other allied-health medical professionals in and around Kalamazoo
