Academy Honor Program Guidelines and Procedures

Criteria: Individuals who are nominated for the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation Academy Program must demonstrate an exemplary combination of the following accomplishments:

II. Professional Recognition:

  • Service
  • Leadership Roles
  • Awards
  • Expertise
    • Consultant
    • Professional Accreditations/Guidelines (i.e., NATA, Governor’s Council of Sport and Physical Fitness, AAHE/NCATE, NASPE/NCATE)
    • Reviewer for journal articles, grant applications

III. Community Service

  • Elected term as a civic official
  • Volunteer Service
  • Community Organization Leadership

Process: Nominations will be solicited from among the graduates of the Physical Education Men’s and Women’s (PEM, PEW) in the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation, through the HPER newsletter, the HPER web site and other appropriate means. Nominations must be accompanied by a current resume or vita; a letter of support also is encouraged. Self-nominations are accepted.

MillerSelection Process: The awardees will be selected by a committee appointed by the department chair. The award committee will be composed of current HPER faculty and emeriti.

Contact: Nominations should be forwarded to the department chair no later than Dec. 1.
