
Textile and Apparel Studies - a fast paced, ever changing and challenging career path with a wide range of opportunities utilizing both aesthetic and technical skills.
The Textile and Apparel Studies curriculum provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to work in companies that use, produce and merchandise textile and apparel products. The program emphasizes the increasing importance of international influences and computer technology essential in preparing for a career in the fashion industry and has concentrations in Merchandising, Fashion Design, and Product Development. Courses are designed to build decision making, communication and critical thinking skills and to develop the ability to solve problems in a team environment. Graduates are prepared to take advantage of exciting opportunities in manufacturing, wholesaling and retailing.
The program also offers a master’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences with a concentration in Textile and Apparel Studies. The master’s program offers a flexible program grounded in human ecological concepts to students who want to further develop knowledge and skills necessary for success in the fashion environment.
The Merchandising Opportunities and Design Association (M.O.D.A.) is the student organization representing Textile and Apparel Studies majors and minors. Membership in this organization provides students with opportunities for professional and personal growth beyond the classroom. Students meet and develop friendships with people in their major, network with companies, learn about careers, tour facilities, gain valuable leadership skills.
