Interior Design
Student Organization
The Interior
Design Student Organization (IDSO) at Western Michigan University
combines student chapters of:
- The
American Society of Interior Designers (ASID)
- The
International Interior Design Association (IIDA)
- unaffiliated
interior design student members
IDSO is a
link to the profession which encourages involvement and networking
by:
- informing
students of professional organization events
- providing
opportunities for student interaction with members of the
profession
- expanding
educational opportunities beyond the classroom through special
programs, field trips and speakers
The IDSO board
is comprised of co-coordinators (a junior and a senior), secretary,
treasurer, representatives of professional organizations such
as ASID, IIDA, CIDR (Coalition for Interior Design Registration
in Michigan), student organizations such as WSA (Western Student
Association), at large representatives from each class and public
relations.
Annual events
include:
- workshops featuring local professional interior designers
- shadowing
days - an annual event where students are paired with professionals
to learn first hand about a typical day at the designer's
workplace
- the
annual Chicago trip to visit professional firms and the Merchandise
Mart.
