Dietetic Community Service Program
What is DCSP?
DCSP is a student directed community service program. Through DCSP, WMU dietetic students may be linked to local area mentorship opportunities. This will better prepare them for a service-orientated and service-directed professional dietetic experience.
Dietetic students choose to participate in DCSP because:
- Volunteer experience is an important aspect of the internship application.
- Learning experiences with mentors (dietitians).
- Benefits both the student and the community.
- Students to work along side professionals in their field.
- Promotes professional development.
- Variety of placements allows students flexibility in selecting mentorships.
- Obtain a certificate of completion to include in the internship application portfolio.
DCSP Objectives
- To incorporate student-directed service learning as a major component of the dietetic degree program at WMU.
- To better prepare student applicants for dietetics internships through volunteer work experience.
- To build the service-oriented leadership capacity of dietetic students.
This program is a partnership of the South West Michigan District Dietetic Association (SWMDDA), WMU Dietetics Program, and WMU Student Dietetic Association (SDA).
