Comps Preparation "Bootcamps":
Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, 1 p.m.- 5 p.m., WMU's Beltline Center
Saturday, Jan. 16, 2009, 1 p.m.-5 p.m., Sangren Hall, WMU's Main Campus.

All interested doctoral students are invited to attend, but you must contact so that she can create an email contact list (in case of bad weather, cancellation, etc.).

Required Forms

  1. EDLD Comps Registration Form (EdD) pdf or EDLD Comps Registration Form (Ph.D) pdf – Complete three weeks prior to the testing date (This document may be saved to your computer, completed on screen, saved again, and attached to an e-mail).
  2. Dissertation Committee Form – Complete the form based on the number of your committee members. Approval must be received prior to taking the comps. Proposed dissertation committee members must now sign their full name. This approval process may take four or more weeks to complete.   3. Temporary Associate Graduate Faculty Membership Application Form pdf – If your proposed third “outside” person is not a current WMU faculty member, then they will need “temporary associate graduate faculty” status. Complete this form and e-mail it (along with that person's vitae) to your advisor or . The approval process for this form will take four or more weeks to complete.
  4. Completed Program of Studies Form – If you have not received a signed copy in the mail, contact your adviser and request they finalize and submit your formal program of studies (which lists all courses you are required to take as part of your doctoral work). This must be done prior to you being able to take the core comps.

These actual comps cases, questions and responses are being provided as a service to students preparing to take the exam, with permission from the students (unnamed) to share this information. These responses are examples of previous successful efforts but are not “the” only correct means to address such questions. These were completed within the timed comps setting so typos and other errors do exist.
