Featured Speaker

Featured SpeakerLinda Forrest, Ph.D., is the current President of the Society of Counseling Psychology (SCP), Division 17 of the American Psychological Association (APA).  As part of her Presidential Projects, she co-chaired the 2008 International Counseling Psychology Conference, the fifth in a series of counseling psychology conferences (Northwestern, 1951, Greystone, 1964, Georgia, 1987, Houston, 2001), and the first one to have an international focus. Dr. Forrest has also served six years as the Division 17 representative to APA Council, the governing body of APA.  She has served as the Associate Editor of The Counseling Psychologist, on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Counseling Psychology, and currently serves on the Editorial Boards of Professional Psychology: Research and Practice and the Journal of Clinical Psychology: In Session.

Dr. Forrest’s scholarship focuses on professional competence issues and especially on faculty responsibilities and decision-making when trainees are struggling to meet the minimum standards of professional competence.  She has published widely with Dr. Nancy Elman, a colleague from the University of Pittsburgh who she first met at a Great Lakes Regional Counseling Psychology Conference at the University of Akron in the early 90s.

Dr. Forrest was a faculty member at the Michigan State University’s Counseling Psychology Program from 1985 to 2001.  Dr. Forrest and her doctoral students were regular presenters at the Great Lakes Conference.  She was the conference coordinator for the 1992 Conference.  She only missed attending one Great Lakes Counseling Psychology while she was a faculty member at MSU.  She is a big believer in the importance of the Great Lakes Conference for introducing students to the profession and she is excited to be speaking as the keynote speakers for this year’s conference.
