The Department of Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology offers two doctoral programs, one in Counseling Psychology (APA Accredited) and one in Counselor Education (CACREP Accredited).
The doctoral program of study is highly individualized. It is developed in conjunction with, and approved by, the student's doctoral committee. The program incorporates the student's past employment and educational experiences, program requirements, and professional goals. Included in the program of study are the program courses, other significant graduate courses, a research component, and related field or internship experiences.
Once the student has completed the majority of course work, the comprehensive examination requirement is initiated. Other program requirements include the doctoral dissertation and an oral defense of the dissertation.
It is expected that students in the program actively participate in professional organizations and uphold the ethical standards of practice set forth by these organizations.
