Dr. McCrumb is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Educational Leadership, Research and Technology. Previously, he spent 16 years as superintendent of schools in Marcellus, was assistant superintendent in Sparta, assistant high school principal in Connersville, IN, and was a math teacher in Middlebury IN. He received his bachelor's degree from WMU in 1971 and his graduate degrees (MS '80, Ed.S. '82, Ed.D. '85) from Indiana University. Dr. McCrumb is a former member of the WMU Alumni Association Board of Directors and is currently president of the College of Education Alumni Society.

Mary Ellen Agar

Mary
Ellen Agar has served on the Board of Directors since the
start of the College of Education Alumni Society. She has
served as membership and program chairman and is co-chair of "Issues in Education."
After teaching 34 years, Mary Ellen retired from St. Monica
in June, 2001. Currently she teaches three classes of Science
in the Elementary Classroom in the Department of Teaching, Learning, and
Educational Studies. She also teaches a computer class
for Senior Citizens through Kalamazoo Valley Community College.
Mary Ellen also serves on the Board of Directors for the
Michigan Education Trust.

Carole has served as a member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors
since 1996. She graduated with a Doctoral Degree in Counseling Psychology
in 1980. Carole retired from counseling at Marcellus High School, after 35
years in education. She is a licensed psychologist and has practiced in the
Kalamazoo area since 1980. She taught summer practicum courses at WMU for
two years in the Department of Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology
and has served on the WMU Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Judi is recently retired from the Portage Public School District where she held the positions of Reading Consultant and Reading Recovery Teacher for Angling Road Elementary School for nineteen years. She held many leadership positions and served on many committees in the Portage District prior to her retirement.

Maggie Hills joined the Board of Directors of the College of Education Alumni Society in 2004. Maggie is a trained Reading Recovery Teacher Leader and works in Portage and surrounding districts with Reading Recovery
teachers and students. She serves as a member of the Child Assistance Team
and the School Improvement Team at Amberly Elementary. Maggie serves on the Curriculum Instruction Committee of the Portage Public Schools. Maggie teaches
classes for WMU during the summer. She also teaches Reading Recovery graduate classes through Oakland University. In 2003 she presented a paper on
Reading Recovery at Oxford and was nominated for the 2004 Michigan Teacher
of the Year Award. Maggie is a member of Reading Recovery of North America, MEA,
Phi Delta Kappa and The International Reading Association.

Charlotte Giscombe has served as Chair of the Nominating Committee on the COE Alumni Board of Directors for the last three years. She works for WMU as a Program Services Coordinator in the Student Support Program. Charlotte received her bachelor's degree from Indiana University and her master's from WMU.

Dr. Balkam is the Superintendent of Climax-Scotts School District. Previously he served as a community college dean, community college vice president, high school principal, middle school principal, teacher, real estate broker, real estate appraiser, and a manager for a technology company in Saudi Arabia. He also worked in Afghanistan at the American International School of Kabul. He received his bachelor's degree in Education from Central Michigan University in 1973, his M.A. in Education Administration from Central Michigan University in 1974, and his Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University in 1979.
