The Early Childhood minor provides an Early Childhood
Specialist endorsement on the elementary teaching certificate.
It is available only to Elementary Education students, (optional
fourth minor), Special Education elementary majors, or to Speech
Pathology majors. You cannot teach in a public school four-year-old
program without it and more and more kindergarten, pre-kindergarten,
and first grade positions are requiring this credential. Besides
the certificate and the endorsement, the Early Childhood minor
provides:
• An opportunity to belong to a group of students and faculty with common interests
• A variety of experiences with children of all ages, with special emphasis on children from birth to nine years
• A portfolio of evidence of increasing skill level, which serves as a valuable tool in securing a job
A 6 credit
hour pre-kindergarten internship is required. This is in addition to the 12 credit hour (full semester) elementary internship. If you
are interested in adding this to your program, please see an advisor
as soon as possible -- Office of Admissions and Advising, 2504
Sangren Hall, (269) 387-3474.
