He has been professionally involved in music education for four decades including 29 years in the Kalamazoo Public Schools. His high school choirs sang for the National Association of Secondary School Principals, Michigan Music Educators Association, Michigan School Vocal Music Association, Michigan Choral Directors Association, Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, and Kalamazoo Concert Band.
The Kalamazoo Singers, a community ensemble, sang for the Central Division Convention of the American Choral Directors Association, as has his choir from Kalamazoos First Presbyterian Church.
Tom Kasdorf received the Community Medal of Arts from the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo, and Kalamazoos Loy Norrix High School has named its auditorium in his honor.
