Ensemble Audition Information

Auditions for Fall 2007 are Aug. 31st through Sept. 4th. Sign up in the Dalton Center beginning August 15th. Information can be found at the Choral Studies bulletin board on the ground floor of the Dalton Center.

All ensembles are open to the WMU student body. Enrollment in the School of Music as a music major is not necessary.

Audition Requirements

Prepared solo - Prepare one song (an accompanist will be provided, if needed). The song should be range-appropriate and demonstrate the overall quality of your singing. If you do not have access to sheet music, a folk song or patriotic song will be accepted.

Sight-reading - You will be given short examples to read unaccompanied. A starting pitch will be given and you will have a short period to look over the example.

Pitch memory - The accompanist will play a series of four to six pitches and ask you to repeat them on your own. Students interested in auditioning for The University Chorale will also be required to learn a short excerpt prior to callback auditions. Excerpt can be obtained from the Choral Studies bulletin board prior to auditions.

Audition Availability

Auditions for University Chorale, Gold Company, GCII, and Collegium Musicum are held once per year, at the beginning of the fall semester. Auditions for Collegiate Singers, Men's Ensemble, and Women's Chorus are held twice per year, at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. Sign up for an appointment on the Choral or Jazz bulletin boards in the Dalton Center practice room area. For more information, contact Dr. James Bass or Dr. Stephen Zegree.

Grand Chorus Membership

Membership in Grand Chorus is required for students who are enrolled in University Chorale, Collegiate Singers, Women's Chorus, and/or Concert Choir. Any other students or member of the community who would like to participate in Grand Chorus are welcome to contact Dr. James Bass for more information.
