Research Instruction Program

The University Libraries Research Instruction program’s goal is to develop information literacy amongst WMU students. As information literacy experts, WMU librarians are here to help course instructors incorporate information literacy into their course curriculum in several ways.

What is Information Literacy?

Information Literacy is the ability to identify, retrieve, evaluate, and use information that is appropriate to a need.

WMU librarians have created a set of , with examples of skills, goals and objectives that students should acquire during their university years. These core competencies are based on the Association of College and Research Libraries' (External) (External) Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education .
