Purpose
The purpose of the CFA Dean's Teaching Award is to recognize the priority placed on high quality teaching and dedication to student learning. The award identifies one faculty member annually for superior contributions as a teacher-artist or teacher-scholar.
Process
Students, alumni, and faculty peers are asked to identify the finest teacher in the College of Fine Arts each fall. The call for nominations will be facilitated through: articles on the collegiate website and in the student newspaper; e-mails to faculty; and the dean's semi-annual newsletter to alumni, emeriti and faculty. Self-nominations are welcome. Nominations are due in writing to Dean Margaret Merrion <
margaret.merrion@wmich.edu> by Friday, January 25, 2008.
Nominated faculty will be notified of their nomination and invited to participate in the selection process. The process involves:
• submitting a select portfolio of teaching accomplishments by February 22.
• inviting the dean to visit their studio or classroom for an observation of teaching by March 28.
• discussing their roles as teacher-artists or teacher-scholars in an interview with the dean.
Notification of Award
The recipient of the CFA Dean's Teaching Award will be selected by the dean and recognized at the fall reception for College of Fine Arts faculty, staff and emeriti.
