"My teaching approach is student-centered. That means, I want to know who my students are, what they want to learn, and why. I then try to help them as much as I can." |

My name is Tom Marks. I have been a Language Instructor at CELCIS since 1996. I received a B.A. in English and Economics from the College of William and Mary in 1981, and an M.A. in Teaching English as a Second Language from the University of Arizona in 1991. I specialized in American and British literature, and in the history of the English language. I am currently a member of TESOL. I started teaching English in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1985. I taught English to students from Mexico and Latin America. Later, my wife and I lived in Japan for five years, where I taught Business English. I also traveled to Hong Kong, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Nepa and Mexico. Because I love learning about new cultures and meeting people from other countries, teaching English is the perfect job for me. My teaching approach is student-centered. That means, I want to know who my students are, what they want to learn, and why. I then try to help them as much as I can. I am married with two children. My hobbies include skiing, gardening, finding good beaches in Michigan, and teaching my kids how to play soccer. |
