Hello. My name is Robert Dlouhy and I have studied Spanish, Swahili, Tibetan, and Japanese. I have an M.A. in Education from Western Michigan University (1974) and an M.A. in Linguistics from Michigan State University (1981). I taught ESL and other subjects as a Peace Corps volunteer in Kenya from 1969-1971 and I have taught ESL at Western Michigan University since 1975. In addition, I have taught TESL methods and general linguistics courses here at various times since 1975. All language training should be goal-directed, geared toward the particular use to which the student will put the language. In addition, I follow the notion that "comprehension precedes production." Understanding the meaning and structure of discourse is prior to trying to produce it. If you have any questions you would like to ask me about the CELCIS program or about Western Michigan University, please feel free to contact me at my E-mail address: dlouhy@wmich.edu. |
