Congratulations to the “Black Pearl” concrete canoe team for bringing home 3rd place in the regional competition. This is the first time that Western Michigan has ever placed among the top three teams in the competition.

The 25- member team took first place in presentation of the canoe, second place for the technical paper on the design and makeup of the canoe and third for the overall display. To come home with three awards and an overall placement among the top teams in the competition exceeded the team’s hopes and helped them get noticed as “a team to be reckoned with.”
