What is WSPP?
The Western Success Prep Program (WSPP) is an intensive five-day class designed to give you a head start on a great first year at Western Michigan University. WSPP is held the week before Fall Welcome. When WSPP concludes, you will transition seamlessly into the Alpha Program Welcome and Fall Welcome with the other first-year students. Students will receive one credit upon completion of the program. Because WMU is committed to your success, there is no charge for WSPP.
Schedule and Content
Plan to move-in Tuesday, August 19 from 5 pm to 7 pm, and then report to the Garneau Hall Lounge no later than 8:15 pm. Although each day varies slightly, program activities run from the morning through the evening, including the weekend. Plan for a busy week! WSPP will conclude on Sunday, August 24.

WSPP is provided to students at no cost. All meals will be provided either through the dining hall or special catering. There will be a vegetarian option at all meals. If, however, you have food allergies, need vegan or gluten-free meals, etc., please contact Walter or Liz as soon as possible with that information. You may want to bring non-perishable snacks, juice, water, etc. for your residence hall room.
Alpha Program Kickoff and Fall Welcome
Following WSPP, all students will attend the Alpha Program Kickoff activities on Tuesday, August 27 from 12:30 am to 4 pm at 2028 Brown Hall. Students will then attend all Fall Welcome activities from the evening of Tuesday, August 27, through Friday, August 30.
We strive to make WSPP accessible for all. If you need accommodations, please contact us to make arrangements.
