General Education and LEC Requirements
The 1999 Liberal Education Curriculum (LEC) is a listing of approved courses and electives specifically catered to College of Arts & Sciences students only.
One course must be completed in each Area:
- Minimum 37 credits from Proficiencies 1, 3 & 4, Distribution Areas and LEC Core A.
- Minimum 6 credits of 300/400 level coursework within the Distribution Areas.
- No more than 2 courses from any Department may be used to satisfy the Distribution Area requirements.
- All courses taken to satisfy any of the LEC requirements must be taken for a regular letter grade (no C/NC).
- Any self instructional work must be approved through/by the advising office.

LEC Core
- Additional Course Area III, U.S. Cultures & Issues (3-4 Credit hours).
- Additional Course from AREA VI, Natural Sciences or Science Depart. (3-4 Credits) Need not include a lab, see curriculum advisor.
- Additional Course from AREA II, Humanities or a Humanities Dept. (3-4 Credits), see curriculum advisor.
- Additional Course for AREA V, Social & Behavioral Sciences (cannot be an introductory or principles course) or a Social Science Dept. (3-4 Credits), see curriculum advisor.
