Student Pay Schedule Guidelines

Following approval by the Board of Trustees, WMU student employee pay rates will increase by 3% this fall. The increase will be effective September 6, 2010, pay period 12, paid on September 28, 2010. Rate increases will be applied automatically by Human Resources and rates must be followed for student employees paid in the A-D levels. Students currently paid at a rate above a Level D, Step 4 will not receive an automatic increase; a separate transaction form will need to be processed by the department. General fund and fund 42 base budgets will be increased to reflect rate changes.

Level A positions are considered entry level and require training. Positions at levels B-D require an increasing level of skill and are paid accordingly. New student hires are generally paid at Step 1 of the appropriate level. Student positions can be advertised on BroncoJOBS; contact Career and Student Employment to post openings, 387-2745.

Student employees with U.S. citizenship may work a maximum of 30 hours per week in the fall/spring semesters. Due to federal laws and VISA restrictions, international students may work a maximum of 20 hours per week during fall/spring semesters. Please refer to Article 1.1.3 of the 2009-2012 AFSCME / WMU Agreement in regards to student employees working in AFSCME staffed operations.
