Winning Nomination:
The BC Dining Unit has over 150 students working here at the moment, making us one of the largest on campus student employers. I whole heartedly believe this to be due to the dedication and energy Gracie Mae puts into her work here. With this large amount of students working together, we do have our fair share of conflicts; thanks to Gracie, they are easily settled.
Gracie goes above and beyond in her daily work here, unlike all the other managers, Gracie doesn’t spend her whole time in front of the computer or back in the kitchen; she is constantly out in the cafeteria, talking to customers, staff, and lending us a hand when we need one. Not only does she act as our employer, but she also is there if we ever need anyone to talk to. Gracie goes out of her way to help all of us with any work problems, school problems, and personal problems.
I have often watched her make herself available (even though I know she has over 300 emails to get through) to let a student interview her for a class. She listens to our suggestions and quite often, she’s willing to try them. Earlier this year I watched her give one of her coats to a student who works here who didn’t have a winter coat, this past summer I watched her open up a spare room in her house for a former student employee who needed a place to stay, and every night I see her offer rides home to anyone who may need one.
Gracie has now been nominated for supervisor of the year many times, and each time someone else has won and we at this unit have never under stood why. We see what she does here for us and I personally know for a fact, it is because she works here, that many of us continue to still do so. Out of all the managers here, she is the one who will always have our backs. |
