Deveta Gardner joined WMU as a career advisor in 1996. Since then, she has provided career education workshops, career advising services, and career event management for several colleges. She has also served as an instructor for Career Exploration and Development courses. She is a member of the College of Education Alumni Society Board of Directors and School University Partnership Team as well as a Fine Arts Guild member. She was awarded the WMU "Make A Difference Award" in 2009.
Prior to working at WMU, Gardner was an assistant director of Admissions at Kalamazoo College and an instructional/behavioral specialist with Kalamazoo Public Schools, where she still serves as a coach. Gardner is active in numerous organizations locally, regionally, and nationally and has been the recipient of several leadership awards. She earned a Ph.D. and a master's degree in educational leadership from WMU and a bachelor's degree from Howard University.
