Outstanding Alumni Award 2013
Relocating to West Michigan to attend WMU on a soccer scholarship, Darren Timmeney spent his four years working toward a degree in finance and commercial law with a minor in economics. Taking the business and finance skills he learned from college, Timmeney began what would be a 25-year career with JPMorgan Chase & Co., one of the largest financial services providers in the United States.
Prior to becoming senior corporate banker, community president and market manager for Chase Commercial Banking for the southwest Michigan region, Timmeney held positions at the company as middle market banker, underwriter and loan review analyst, advising companies on financing for expansions, acquisitions, employee stock ownership plans, business sales, global trade, international expansions and more. In his current role, Timmeney spends his time working with privately-held businesses and entrepreneurs, helping them compete successfully in the increasingly global marketplace.
In Michigan, Chase serves about 141,000 small and mid-sized businesses and 3 million consumers. Employing more than 4,400 people in West Michigan, the bank operates 300 branches and 538 automated teller machines.
Timmeney is very active in the Kalamazoo community having served with a variety of not-for-profit boards, including the Kalamazoo Symphony, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Gryphon Place and United Way Allocations, along with volunteering as a soccer coach for elite soccer teams.
