Career Olympics
What is it?
Career Olympics is a new event which allows business students to prepare for Career Day by competing on teams in a variety of career events. A maximum of 15 teams may register to compete this year. Teams will compete in each event and be scored individually and as a team by employer judges.
Who can participate?
- Any Haworth College of Business student.
- Register online as a team of 4 or register as an individual to be placed on a team of four.
- Your team may compete on behalf of an RSO. All team members must be active members in the RSO to qualify for the RSO competition. Additionally, students may only represent one RSO.
- Each team and each team member must participate in all events
- Register Now for the Career Olympics!
What are the events?
- Resume Event: A hard copy of each member’s resume is required to compete.
- Cover Letter Event: Each team member prepares a cover letter customized to a specific job posting of your choice. Bring a hard copy of both the job posting and the cover letter to the event.
- Interview Event: Each team member will answer one interview question. The team, as a whole, will choose one interview question to ask the judge.
- Professional Introduction Event: Prepare to verbally deliver your professional introduction (30 or 60 second commercial). Each member will also be judged on professional dress.
- Company Research Event: Teams will have 20 minutes to research an assigned company (laptops will be provided). Based on the research, each team member will prepare a customized informational interview question to present to the judge.
What are the awards?
- The top three scoring teams will win Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals.
- The top RSO, determined by the highest average of all teams representing each RSO, will win the Bronco Cup, and bragging rights as the overall winner.
How does the Career Olympics work?
- Student teams will visit the registration table at the start of the event to check in and receive scorecards.
- “Opening Ceremony” will occur between registration and the “games” to orient both student teams and employers to the events.
- Student teams will rotate to 5 different events in 20 minute intervals.
- Employer judges will be present at each event to evaluate and score each team member and provide feedback.
- All judges will be provided with scoring criteria cards at registration to ensure consistent scoring of each team.
- At the end of each round, score cards will be collected from the judges and scores will be tallied for each team and organization at the registration table.
- At the end of the program, the top 3 teams will be awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals respectively, as well as prizes. Additionally, the top scoring student organization will be awarded the Bronco Cup, which will be kept by that organization until the next Career Olympics. Students will receive individual feedback, privately.
