Sheldon Stone


Mr. Stone specializes in advising middle-market companies on strategic and restructuring planning, mergers and acquisitions, and operational improvement in the retail, construction, technology, manufacturing and distribution industries. Additionally, Mr. Stone has held executive positions in the retail, technology and automotive supplier industries.

Prior to joining Amherst, Mr. Stone was a co-founder and Principal of The Pillar Group, LLC, a provider of turnaround and growth consulting services to the middle market, including interim crisis and cash management, debt restructuring and loan workouts, throughput accounting implementation, strategic business planning, and interim executive management.

Most recently, Mr. Stone served as President/CEO of a client in the technology industry. Mr. Stone was retained post-acquisition as interim President to integrate the new executive team into the existing organization. While in this position, Mr. Stone negotiated and secured a contract with a European customer, obtained funding from the State of Michigan and worked with Members of the U.S. House of Representatives to obtain line-item earmark funding.

Mr. Stone's line experience includes a position of interim President/COO for a $45 million automotive suppler. While in this position, Mr. Stone directed the company to aN 8.7% pre-tax profit in a year, overcoming the previous two years' losses totaling $3.1 million. Additionally, Mr. Stone was the Division General Manager for DFS Emporium in Honolulu, Hawaii. While in this position, Mr. Stone grew this flagship from $260 million to $420 million in two and a half years, while increasing margin by 7 points. Prior to this position, Mr. Stone was Corporate Group Director of Planning at DFS. The responsibilities of this position included leading the annual planning process and research of potential new markets for this $1.8B (USD) organization.

Mr. Stone was also with Plante & Moran, serving as a Manager in Consulting Services, serving clients in Construction, Retail, Manufacturing and Banking.

Mr. Stone is a frequent author and speaker on the topics of the economy, strategic differentiation, and acquisition strategy and business development. He received his BBA, BS and MA in Organizational Behavior from Western Michigan University. He is fluent in Japanese.
