Managers are responsible for effectively accomplishing organizational objectives. Achieving such objectives largely depends upon the ability of managers to acquire and organize a variety of human and material resources. Thus, the challenge of management lies in eliciting high performance from an organization while satisfying its employees' occupational, professional, and personal needs.
Although managers engage in numerous activities, one of the most critical to organizational success is decision-making. Managers' decisions range from tactical ones affecting day-to-day operations to strategic ones that can determine the future of an organization. In short, the success of an organization primarily depends on effective decision-making by its managers.
Although the majority of WMU's management graduates are employed in business and industry, some have taken positions in hospitals, colleges and universities, state and local government agencies, the armed forces, national religious organizations, and charitable organizations. A few graduates each year choose to become entrepreneurs and start their own businesses.
