Sixty percent of Dutch national income is earned through export, import and transit activities. Long known as the traders of Europe, the Dutch have developed logistics to benchmark level in the international business arena. The Hogeschool van Utrecht (HvU) is one of the largest universities of professional education in the Netherlands and is grant-aided by the state. The Hogeschool focuses on education with a practical emphasis. The University has several buildings in the centre of Utrecht, on the campus 'De Uithof' where a large number of the 1050 foreign-based companies have their subsidiary (IBM, Fortis, Cap Gemini, Oracle, Mercedes-Benz, Compaq, Bayer). This new exchange program will focus on the Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) in the first phase and may expand later to include courses in communication. All courses in the International Business and Management program are taught in English. WMU students may study business at HvU in the spring semester February to the late July or for the full academic year that runs late August through mid-July. Enrollment in the fall semester exclusively is not an option, as exams take place in January and would conflict with the WMU calendar. WMU students with senior status in the Hayworth College of Business that study at the FEM for a full year may choose to complete the Dual Degree Program. By passing all compulsory subjects of this program (total of 60 ECTS credits of 3rd and 4th year subjects) students may obtain the BBA Degree in Marketing Management; Finance and Accounting; or Business Logistics. WMU students interested in this exchange program may be able to contact students from the host institution currently studying at WMU. Contact the Haenicke Institute for Global Education for information.
Students will study at The Center for European Studies (CES) at the University of Maastricht. The CES program was established to provide courses in international studies to non-European students. Students from all over the world participate in CES programs that focus on the economic, political, and socio-cultural aspects of Europe. The tailor-made courses at CES are interdisciplinary and expand upon diverse worldviews. The instructors at the CES are university professors, and all courses are conducted in English. In addition to academics, the program also organizes excursions to Brussels, Paris, Amsterdam and other locations, depending on demand.
