FAQs for Freshmen
You will complete a rigorous, challenging program that prepares you for entry-level career opportunities in the world of work. Your Business Student Portfolio will introduce you to future employers as an individual who is ready to make the transition from undergraduate study to your career path.
As the HCOB faculty developed the curriculum, nine specific outcome objectives were determined. We expect that as a graduate of our College, you will be able to:
- Understand essential business knowledge
- Make effective business decisions
- Communicate effectively
- Understand and apply global business knowledge and leadership
- Demonstrate effective teamwork and leadership
- Demonstrate an understanding of business operations and product and process technology.
- Understand and use computer-based information systems and infrastructures
- Practice acceptable standards of ethical and professional behavior
- Participate in professional development activities.
Complete the University Admission Application and submit the materials requested. Indicate that your curriculum of interest is PBA (Pre-business Administration).
You usually know your admission status within four weeks.
You initially meet with your HCOB advisor during freshmen orientation, the summer prior to your freshmen year. Your HCOB advisor helps you schedule your first-semester classes.
If you are a transfer student, you meet your advisor at the HCOB Transfer Advising Program. You receive information about this program soon after your University admission is complete.
You should plan to meet with your HCOB advisor at least once each semester throughout your enrollment at Western Michigan University.
To live on campus, complete the residence hall reservation information that is included in your admission packet.
To live off-campus, begin your search as soon as possible through the Office of Off-Campus Life, 269-387-2491.

Consider 10-15 hours per week. The number of hours you work depends on the number of credit hours you carry and the expectations of your professors.
Business courses are taught, in most cases, by full-time, HCOB faculty. Occasionally, a course is taught by a local corporate officer, consultant, entrepreneur, lawyer or public official.
Consider 12-15 hours during your first semester. you can discuss the rigors and expectations of your schedule with your advisor and make wise decisions.
- Fall Semester: Late August to mid December

- Summer II Semester: Mid June to mid August
