What is the average salary of an accountant?

Where are accountants employed?

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, accountants and auditors held about 976,000 jobs in 2000. They worked throughout private industry and government, but almost 1 out of 4 salaried accountants worked for accounting, auditing, and bookkeeping firms. Approximately 3 out of 25 accountants or auditors were self-employed.

Many accountants and auditors are unlicensed management accountants, internal auditors, or government accountants and auditors; however, a large number are licensed Certified Public Accountants. Most accountants and auditors work in urban areas, where public accounting firms and central or regional offices of businesses are concentrated.

Some individuals with backgrounds in accounting and auditing are full-time college and university faculty; others teach part time while working as self-employed accountants or as salaried accountants for private industry or government.

Can I enroll in ACTY 3130, Accounting Information Systems, if I'm an accountancy minor?

I am going to be interning at an accounting firm this coming semester, do I have to enroll in ACTY 4100?

This is your choice, however you must decide before beginning your internship. Students will not be allowed to enroll in ACTY 4100 after the internship begins.

I interned at an accounting firm last semester, can I enroll in ACTY 4100 this semester and get credit?

Unfortunately not. Students must be enrolled in ACTY 4100 while meeting the requirements of the course.

What are the eligibility requirements for Beta Alpha Psi membership? How can I become involved?

The requirements necessary for acceptance into Beta Alpha Psi are listed below. If you'd like to learn more about Beta Alpha Psi or be considered for membership, indicate your desire by completing an application. Applications can be picked up in the Department of Accountancy.

Undergraduate Requirements
(Accounting major or minor)

• Completed 6 hours of Accounting (ACTY 2100& 2110)
• GPA of 3.0 or better overall or GPA of 3.25 or better in last 30 hours completed
• Attain an average of 3.0 or better in upper level Accounting courses
• Attend all meetings/events
• Serve on a committee

Graduate Requirements

• Accepted into the MSA program
• Attend all meetings/events
• Serve on a committee

What requirements must be met to be considered for admission into a graduate program (i.e. prerequisites, GPA and GRE scores)?
