The Office of Information Technology recommends following these steps to ensure your computer is safe from security threats. If you believe your computer is already infected with a virus or other security threat please contact the OIT Help Desk for assistance at (269) 387-HELP, option 1.

Windows Computers

Before you continue, you may want to determine which Windows version you are running


  1. Ensure you are running the latest version of Symantec AntiVirus Software
  2. Update your Symantec Virus Definitions
  3. Enable Windows Firewall
  4. Enable Automatic Windows Updates
  5. Perform an Immediate Windows Update
  6. Follow the File Sharing Safety Precautions

Macintosh Computers

  1. Perform Macintosh OS updates
