Because of security flaws in several versions of Microsoft Windows, it is imperative that you keep your computer secure by installing Windows patches and updates. Computers that have not been made secure may be removed from the WMU network until they have been secured.

Automatic Updates
Automatic updates are only for critical updates. They do not include security patches, service patches, drivers, or other updates. It is recommended you set up your computer to do critical updates automatically, even though they are also included in the standard Windows Updates. You must perform all updates to secure your system. To set up automatic critical updates:
Windows XP (XP Mode)
1. Go to 'Settings' and open your 'Control Panel'.
2. Double-click 'Automatic Updates'
- If you are using Windows XP, in Category View select Performance and Maintenance, and then double-click System. Then choose Automatic Updates

Windows XP (Classic Mode)
- From the Control Panel select System, and then select Automatic Updates

Make sure "Keep my computer up to date." is checked and then select either "Download the updates automatically and notify me..." or "Automatically download the updates, and install them...", depending upon which you prefer. You may always change this later. Click 'OK' after you have made your selection.
Windows Security, Service Patch, Drivers, and Other Updates
In addition to setting your computer to do critical updates automatically, you must also check for and install security and service patch updates. It is recommended that you do this procedure at least weekly.
1. Open (Run) Internet Explorer. Click on Tools > Windows Update 2. Then click on 'Scan for Updates'

3.This may take several minutes. If updates are found, they will be shown on the left.

4. Click 'Review and install updates'

5. Always select and install security and service patch updates. Driver or other updates should be installed if they apply to your particular system and needs.
Windows Vista Updates

1. Click on the start menu, and click on Control Panel

2. Click on Security
