Biological Sciences
Staff
The Biological Sciences Department at WMU is supported by the tireless efforts of the administrative and technical staff members. Our administrative staff members provide budget management, data entry, purchasing and secretarial services for the department. Our technical staff members are involved in laboratory work, monitor radiation safety, oversee greenhouse operations and supervise various undergraduate teaching laboratories.
Lori McKnight
Lori is the Office Coordinator for the Department of Biological Sciences. Lori manages departmental research and teaching accounts, payroll and personnel files. Lori joined Western Michigan University in 1994 in the History Department then joined the Biological Sciences Department in 1999. She also is a recipient of the prestigious Staff Service Excellent Award from Western Michigan University in 1999.

Theresa McGee
Theresa is the Office Associate for the Department of Biological Sciences. Theresa joined Western Michigan University in 2005 in the Mallinson Institute, then joined the Biological Sciences Department in 2007.

Shannon Rauner
Shannon is the Undergraduate Advisor for the Department of Biological Sciences. She routinely meets with any Undergraduate students who wish to have any of the Biological Sciences majors or minors. Shannon completed her B.S. in Zoology, with a concentration in Ecology, Evolution and Organismal Biology from Michigan State University. Shannon is currently pursuing her B.S. in Secondary Education and her MBA in International Business at Western Michigan University. She has been a staff member at Western Michigan University since 2002.

Technical Staff
Vivian Locke
Vivian oversees
the microbiology facilities, providing support with the preparation
of media, maintenance of microbial cultures, and support for the
microbiology laboratory. Microbiology laboratories are offered
for biology majors, nurses, and pre-med students. She also maintains
support equipment in Haenicke Hall and ensures the comfortable
work environment in Haenicke Hall. Vivian provides reliable instructions
for operating equipment along with trouble shooting equipment
failure for the common use areas. Vivian joined the department
in 1979.

Chris Jackson, M.S.
Mr. Jackson
is the Manager of the Greenhouse and all other plant related facilities.
The greenhouse facilities house a collection of ornamental plants
and an area for research stations. Additionally, Mr. Jackson provides
support for courses in botany, ecology and plant physiology. Mr.
Jackson's area of expertise is ornamental horticulture and Integrated
Pest Management. Mr. Jackson joined the department in 1996.

Celene Jackson, M.S.
Celene is a laboratory coordinator
for 1000 level biology courses for majors and minors, as Celene
has extensive laboratory experiences in molecular virology and
neurobiology. Celene also is in charge of BIOS 1100, a non-majors
biology course. She is a good writer and a department-renowned
proof reader. She has helped in many manuscript proof readings.
She joined the department in 1994.

Alejandra Sanchez
Alejandra is a Laboraory technician in the Department of Biological Sciences and works in the lab of Dr. David Cowan. She is the technical Support for the inbreeding experiments and genetic analysis in the Order Hymenoptera. She also helps to maintain support equipment in Haenicke Hall and guide the new personnel for operating equipment.
