Research Description
Area of Research: Cellular Immunopathology
Master Faculty Specialist/ Director, Biological Imaging Center: Dr. Eversole’s main research is in the cellular pathology associated with the mammalian immune response to helminth parasites. Our laboratory is currently interested in eosinophil involvement in intestinal Peyer’s patches in regard to antigen presentation and nematode rejection. In addition, we are involved in both the Mectizan Donation Program for Lymphatic Filariasis Elimination for Africa and the Onchocerciasis Elimination Program for the Americas. Our role will include providing a pathology database for human tissues gathered in order to monitor drug efficacy in these important worldwide disease elimination programs.
Techniques used: Transmission Electron Microscopy, Laser Scanning Confocal Microscopy, Immunocytochemistry, Immunohistochemistry, Compartment-Specific Fluorescent Probes, Autoradiography and Histology.

Dr. Eversole is Director of the Biological Imaging Center at Western Michigan University. The Biological Imaging Center offers a full range of services to investigators interested in ultrastructural analysis of materials and biological samples, including optical microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, confocal scanning fluorescence microscopy and state of the art computer imaging analysis equipment. In addition, specialized cytochemistry analysis with immunogold and fluorescence labeling is performed here. Almost all graduate students will eventually need Dr. Eversole's help to make images for their presentations. Dr. Eversole joined the department in 1990.
