Professor of Biological Sciences. Dr. Jellies is a Neurobiologist
with interests in the function, development and evolution of simple
neural circuits. One major project in his lab examines the roles
of cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions in coordinating neuronal
differentiation during embryonic development. He uses the invertebrate
medicinal leech (Hirudo medicinalis) and biochemical, cellular,
and electrophysiological techniques to ask: a) how do neurons
select particular targets and reject others and b) how do those
targets then influence the subsequent development of neuronal
phenotype? Work in Dr. Jellies'
lab spans molecular to systems levels of analysis.
