Area of Research: Cancer Cell Biology - Signal Transduction
Associate Professor of Biological Sciences. Dr. Bejcek's research is in the area of cancer biology, primarily on the processes by which cancers are initiated, maintained and progress. Studies involve extensive use of cellular and molecular techniques to investigate the involvement of a variety of signaling molecules inside the cells and genes in tumor formation and control of cell growth.
Role of Platelet Derived Growth Factor Receptor (PDGFR) in cancer and the function and regulation of secondary signaling molecules asociate with the recptor. Investigation of the roles of transcription factors in PDGF transformed cells by using siRNA technique.
Gene reporter assay, eukaryotic cell transfection, tissue culture, general molecular techniques, molecular cloning, Western blot, Southern blot, Northern blot, PCR, RT-PCR, RNA interference, kinase assays.
