Dr. Bill Cobern is a Distinguished Faculty Scholar and professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Western Michigan University. He has a joint appointment in the Mallinson Institute for Science Education.
Cobern began his science education career as a high school biology and chemistry teacher. At the Mallinson Institute for Science Education he teaches a variety of courses for science teacher development, including science education research and an online course titled Evolution for Teachers. He has an active research program funded by the National Science Foundation regarding factors that influence effective science teaching and learning. In 2006, Cobern was named Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
