Biodiesel consists of three faculty members and a number of additional
staff and students who are working in conjunction with university
officials, community members, and city employees to establish
Kalamazoo’s first biodiesel production facility.
Faculty
Steve Bertman
Professor,
Chemistry
Steve is an organic chemist
interested in the role of organic compounds
in the photochemistry of the lower atmosphere. He got involved in
biofuels, specifically biodiesel, in 2004 after learning about the
exhaust emissions improvements from biofuels and their potential to
contribute to concrete action toward renewable fuels. Biofuels may not
be a panacea of our energy needs, but they can contribute to more
sustainable urban living and create opportunities for innovation and
new industry.
