The Practice of Teaching master's degree from the Department of Teaching, Learning and Educational Studies (TLES) at WMU offers three specialized program concentrations - Early Childhood Education (state ZA endorsement), K-12 Curriculum and Instruction and Foundations in Teaching (for WWF/WK Kellogg Fellows only).
Students may select courses outside of TLES for a highly customized program. This flexibility allows students to focus on an academic content area related to their own teaching position (science, math, language arts, etc.) or on another area of personal, academic or professional interest (fine arts, leadership, foreign language, psychology, etc.).
The MA Practice of Teaching program is designed for teachers who have already had some time in the field and are ready to advance in their careers. Specific admissions requirements are available on the TLES website.
Teachers can boost their earnings in a number of ways. In some schools, teachers receive extra pay for coaching sports and working with students in extracurricular activities. Getting a master's degree or national certification often results in a raise in pay, as does acting as a mentor. (US Bureau of Labor Statistics)
