Scott AustinDirector of Aircraft MaintenanceScott graduated from Western Michigan University in 1994 with a bachelor’s degree in Aviation Maintenance Engineering Technology. He had an internship in 1995 with United Airlines assisting aircraft maintenance management teams. Then went back to WMU’s aircraft maintenance department and worked for several years as a part-time aircraft technician and was hired full-time in Feb. 1997. During 1999-2003, Scott was the lead aircraft maintenance technician for the college and then on to Chief Inspector and Manager of Logistics and Compliance until Febuary of 2009. Presently, he is Director of Aircraft Maintenance for the College of Aviation and WMU’s Part 145 repair station for limited instruments and radio, FAR part 91.411 and 91.413 recerts. He currently holds an airframe and powerplant license with an Inspectors Authorization (IA). Other courses and schools he has attended would be Teledyne Continental Motors advanced technician training, Flight Safety’s Cessna Conquest I (C-425) maintenance training, Simcom’s Piper aircraft maintenance training and Pratt and Whitney’s small frame PT6 engine maintenance training. Also received certified training with Avidyne, S-Tec and L-3/Skywatch. |

Jonathan DennisAviation Maintenance TechnicianJonathan graduated Western Michigan University in 2003 with a Bachelors of Science in Aviation Flight and in Aviation Maintenance Technology. Beginning in 2000, he worked for the College of Aviation as a Line Service employee and completed a maintenance internship in the aircraft maintenance department. He is a FAA licensed commercial multi-engine pilot and mechanic with a inspection authorization. His experience includes Beechcraft piston and turbine, Cessna piston and turbine, Cirrus, Extra, Fokker, Gulfstream, Hawker, and Piper while working at WMU and at a Beechcraft service center. He has worked as a licensed mechanic at WMU since 2003 and has supervised other mechanics and student employees of the Line Service department. His current position is lead mechanic and repariman/inspector for WMU's Part 145 Repair Station. Additional training he has received includes Flight Safety maintenance course, Avidyne Flight Max, Duncan Aviation's 411/413 certification, L-3 Communications Skywatch, S-Tec Autopilot, and Teledyne Continental Motors fuel system courses. |

Dwight DyesAviation Maintenance TechnicianDwight W Dyes graduated Western Michigan in 2004 with a BS in Aviation Maintenance Technology. The same year he completed his degree he obtained his A&P license. In Nov of 04 he was hired full time at Western Michigan University. To date Dwight has obtained training in Cirrus SR-20’s and 22’s. |

John FranklinAviation Maintenance TechnicianGraduated Spartan College of Aviation in 1987 with AS in Aviation Maintenance as well as Pilot certificates including commercial airplane single and multi engine land, CFI, CFII, and MEI. I started at WMU as a flight instructor in August of 2001. As of July 2006 I have been working in Aircraft maintenance for the COA. |

Pamela JonesAviation Maintenance TechnicianPamela Jones graduated from Western with a BS in 2002. She started working at Western that same year as a part time aviation maintenance technician, and was hired into a full time position as an aviation maintenance technician in 2004. Pamela is currently in charge of parts and warranty in the maintenance department and holds an A&P licence. |

Justine FosterAviation Maintenance TechnicianJustine Foster attended Western Michigan University from 2000 through 2004. She graduated from WMU with a B.S. degree. She majored in Aviation Maintenance Technology. Shortly after graduating, she worked for the College of Aviation's Maintenance department as an intern. In 2005, Justine was hired full time. Currently she holds an A&P license as an aviation maintenance technician. |

Jeffery NillsonAviation Maintenance TechnicianJeff spent 2 yrs in the USN onboard the USS George Washington as an ABH3. He graduated from WMU with BS in Aviation Maintenance/Management in 1997. He interned at WMU from 1995 to 1997 and was hired full time 1997. Jeff was the 1st shift lead mechanic from 2003 to 2009 and is currently the Chief Aircraft Inspector. His current ratings are A and P, IA, PPL Helicopter. He attended Cirrus University, Cirrus Composite School, and Robinson Helicopter Maintenance School with training in Skywatch, Laversab, Continental, Avidyne. |

Dhrupad PatelAviation Maintenance TechnicianDhru has attended Western Michigan University in 2001 for a B.S. in Aviation Flight Science and completed his private pilot license with a instrument rating. He worked at W.M.U. in 2001 as line technician and later in 2003 as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician for W.M.U.’s fleet maintenance shop. He became a full time member of the aircraft fleet maintenance shop in 2005, in which he specializes in composite repair and avionics. He is currently working toward his Inspection Authorization (IA) license to add to his Airframe and Powerplant license. He is also an avionics inspector/technician for W.M.U. repair station (limited instrument and radio). Other areas of specialized training to date includes: Cirrus University SR20/22 course, Laversab 6300 Factory training, L3 Comm. Skywatch Traffic Advisory Training, S-Tec and Meggit autopilot training and Avidyne PFD/MFD factory training. |

Jacob ZochAviation Maintenance TechnicianJacob started his aviation career at age 16 with his first solo flight in a Cessna 150. After high school he went to Western Michigan University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and Applied Science, majoring in Aviation Technology and Operations, with a Minor in Management. He earned his A and P license in Jan. 1998 and worked as an intern for WMU’s aircraft maintenance department, while finishing his last semester of college. After graduating college he worked for Basler Turbo Conversions in Oshkosh WI. There he started as a Sheet metal technician and ended as a FAA/PMA inspector. In October of 1999 Jacob was hired as a full time Mechanic for Western Michigan University, at a temporary satellite facility located on Romeo State Airport in Romeo, MI. Later he returned to the Battle Creek facility and From Jan 2004 to June 2008 Jacob was a lead aircraft mechanic. Currently he is the Assistant Inspector. Jacob holds an A and P with Inspection Authorization (IA), and a Private Pilot Single Engine Land. Other certified training Includes; Cirrus Composite repair, Cirrus University, Avidyne Integra, S-Tec, L-3/Skywatch, Laversab 6300, Duncan Aviation 91.411/914.13 training. He is also a repairmen/inspector for WMU’s Part 145 repair station for avionics recertification, FAR part 91.411 and 91.413. Other Honors and Activities include Guest Speaker Great Lakes Aviation Conference 2003 and 2004, Adjunct professor WMU Winter 2008 and 2009. |

Brian SchmidtAviation Maintenance TechnicianBrian graduated Western Michigan University in 1999 with a bachelors in aviation sciences. He currently holds a commercial multi-engine instrument airplane, CFI and CFII certificates. Brian was hired in 2001 as a flight instructor for the university training students in part 145 Private, Commercial and Instrument courses. In 2005 he was hired full-time into the maintenance department as an aircraft maintenance technician. Brian holds an airframe and powerplants certificate with inspection authorization. Brian has attended courses such as Cirrus University SR-20/SR22 maintenance, Cirrus Standardized Instructor Program in SR-20 / SR-22 and factory Avidyne Flight Max PFD / MFD training. Brian has also received training in S-tec autopilot, L-3 Skywatch and Continental engine fuel systems. |

Rusty WinstonAviation Maintenance TechnicianRusty earned an associate of art degree at Glenn Oaks Community College and an associate of aircraft maintenance technology from the Community College of the Air Force. He served in the US Air Force as a helicopter crew chief where he was involved in support of government test programs, special operations, and rescue. He crewed primarily on the H-53 but also worked on the C-130 and H-1. Rusty is an A&P/IA in the WMU aircraft maintenance department. While at WMU, he also obtained his instrument, commercial, and multi ratings. He has also worked at other general aviation businesses in the area. |
