
Throughout the year, the College of Aviation participates in multiple events. Information about select events is located below.
The College of Aviation has several activities taking place for Homecoming week. These events include "Aviation Week" by Aviation Student Council, Captain Donald. W. Davenport, and a homecoming tailgate.
Aviation Week is presented by Aviation Student Council and Firestone Complete Auto Care. This week is designed to bring the students of the College of Aviation together to learn, celebrate, and enjoy being part of the College of Aviation. Various events are scheduled throughout the week.
Monday: All College Information SessionOctober 1 7:30 to 9:00 p.m., 1710 Wood Hall
Aviation Student Council's October All College Information Session presented by Chipotle Mexican Grill. This event will feature guest speakers Captain Dave Powell and Senior Leadership Team members Steve Jones (Director of Operations), Gil Sinclair (Faculty Chair), and Dr. Raymond Thompson. Tuesday: Hotdog Cookout
October 2 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Flagpoles on main campus
Join Aviation Student Council for a FREE hotdog cookout on main campus at the flag poles. Hotdogs and drinks will be served free of charge. Sponsored by Firestone Complete Auto Care.
Wednesday: KAZO Terminal Tour
October 3 7:30 p.m., Kalamazoo Airport (meet in front of Henry Hall)
Aviation Student Council invites you to take an exclusive tour of the Kalamazoo terminal. Get a behind the scenes look at the operation of an airport! Meet in front of Henry Hall at 7:30 p.m. Tour starts at 8 p.m.
Thursday: ASC Free For All
October 4 7:00 p.m., Bernhard Center
Join Aviation Student Council for a night of fun, games, and free food! Have fun and connect with your fellow aviation students, and feel free to discuss real issues affecting you without the pressures of non-students being there. Presented by Firestone Complete Auto Care, this free for all will be a night you won't want to miss!
Friday: Broomball
October 5 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. Lawson Ice Arena
Aviation Student Council is doing a night of Broomball! Compete against your fellow students and see who will rule the ice! Broomball is a fun, exciting game that anybody can play! Space is limited, please sign up at the Aviation Student Council page

The College of Aviation is proud to present guest speaker Captain Donald Davenport. Captain Davenport is a KC-135T Instructor Pilot with the 171st Air Refueling Squadron, stationed at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Michigan. In addition to his flying obligation, Captain Davenport is responsible for Plans & Aircrew Recruiting. Donald is a Detroit native and graduate of the Detroit Public School district. Upon graduating from Ben O. Davis Jr. Aerospace Technical High School in 1996, Capt Davenport was awarded the WMU, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Women and Minorities in Aviation scholarship and attended Western Michigan University as an Aviation Flight Science major. He is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. initiated at Western Michigan University, Epsilon Xi chapter in the spring of 1999. “First of All, Servants of All, We Shall Transcend All”.
Captain Davenport is a 2001 graduate of Western Michigan University’s College of Aviation and was hired by the Michigan Air National Guard, 171st Airlift Squadron in August 2001, to fly the C-130 Hercules. Capt Davenport attended Undergraduate Pilot Training at Columbus Air Force Base, MS & Corpus Christi Naval Air Station, TX in 2004. Since receiving his wings, Captain Davenport has flown the C-130E and the KC-135R/T all over the world, in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM, IRAQI FREEDOM and NEW DAWN. His memberships include, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Tuskegee Airmen, Inc., Detroit Chapter, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Airlift and Tanker Association and the National Guard Association of the United States and Michigan.

Join the College of Aviation on Football Saturday for some tailgating action! From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. the college will be serving up free hotdogs, chips, and water to College of Aviation students, faculty, staff, and alumni! You must have your College of Aviation ID or be wearing a College of Aviation shirt to take advantage of the free food. After the tailgate, be sure to head over to Waldo Stadium to watch the Bronco football team take down the Minutemen of Umass! A map of the tailgating location is located below.
