Asylum Lake Property unfortunately contains invasive plant species.
These invasive species include:
HERBACEOUS WEEDS:
Bull Thistle, Cirsium vulgare
Canada Thistle, Cirsium arvense
Curly Dock, Rumex crispus
Spotted Knapweed, Centaurea maculosa
Crown Vetch, Coronilla varia (Still intentionally planted as a slope-stabilizer)
Purple Loosestrife, Lythrum salicaria
Japanese Knotweed, Polygonum japonicum
Garlic Mustard, Alliaria officinalis (petiolata)
Mugwort, Artemisia vulgaris
Horseweed, Conyza (Erigeron) canadensis
GRASSES AND REEDS:
Giant Reed, Phragmites australis (A problem at the inlet to Asylum Lake, East of Drake)
Quack Grass, Agropyron repens
Timothy, Phleum pratensis
Kentucky Bluegrass, Poa pratensis (the same one we plant as turfgrass)
Brome Grasses, Bromus inermis, japonicus, etc.
WEEDY TREES:
Box Elder, Acer negundo (Native, but a problem in our woodlands)
